Anaya...... freedom

Her wedding dress laid discarded on the floor. It was time..... time to act on her decision that she had contemplated about for so long.

As she walked out of the room, she went back in time when all of it started.

Anaya was a simple, educated and a very care-free girl who believed in enjoying life to the fullest. As per her desires, she had graduated from a very reupted college in the city and had been immeditely picked up by the top most designing boutique. She had explored her creativity and designed clothes creating her own signature style.

One thing led to another and before she knew her parents were talking about her wedding. She met Adarsh in one such traditional match fixing date and had instantly taken a liking towards his straight forward and down to earth nature. She had given her approval to her parents and the prepareations for her wedding started. Her parents were exicted about their only daughter's wedding and being very wealthy did not want to leave any stone unturned for her wedding. They had spent a lot of money and had only the grandest & finest things arranged for her wedding.
Anaya, oblivious to all this was busy spending time with Adarsh. They would meet each day after work and spend the whole evening together. Adarsh was a perfect gentleman. He listened when Anaya spoke, became aware of Anaya's likes & dislikes and treated her like a perfect lady. Anaya was on cloud nine. Life couldn't have been more perfect.

Adarsh's parents had just visited her house, as she returned from office one day. Her parents were showing mixed reactions and this confused Anaya. They were happy that she was getting married, but were....... Anaya couldn't relate to the other emotion they showed. She brushed it off thinking it was the pre-wedding jitters that parents usually show before their dauther's wedding.

The next time when this happened was when they all had gone out for dinner for Adarsh's brother's birthday. She had seen Adarsh's mother slipping a folded note into her mother's hand. Her mother had been depressed through out the evening after that.

She decided to find out what the matter was. Next day when nobody was at home, she went to her parent's room and searched for the note. She finally found it in her mother's cupboard beneath the folded sarees. She was shocked when she opened the note and read the contents. It had a list of items that Adarsh's mother had asked for, as 'gifts' for the wedding. She had kept the note with her and decided that she would talk about it with Adarsh during their next meeting.

When she bought up the topic during the next meeting with Adarsh, he brushed it aside telling that it was very common for girl's parents to give her gifts during the wedding for setting up her new house. She was shocked at his reaction. She really liked Adarsh, but this kind of thinking did not go down well with her.

She had spent sleepness nights contemplating her decision of marrying Adarsh, on the pressure her parents must be facing and on her next course of action.

Finally her wedding day dawned and she had made her decision. As she walked down the aisle eyebrows rose, coz she was walking devoid of her bridal attire and was accompanied by the police. She walked up to the mantap and stated her decision to Adarsh in front of the crowd. The polics that had accompanied her arrested Adarsh & his parents. Her parents were in joyful tears and hugged her.

She told her parents that they had spent money to educate her and make her independent. They did not have to bow down to society's evil demands of dowry. She was capable enough of taking care of herself. Whatever they spent on her wedding should be out of love and not due to force!

With these words she walked out of the mantap to a life of freedom!
